[00:00:00] And we want to welcome everyone this morning, the Fire and Grace Church, those of you here, [00:00:07] those of you watching and listening, praise be to God. [00:00:11] I'm going to tackle a subject this morning that's really misunderstood, I think, in [00:00:17] the body of Christ. [00:00:18] It has to be, and I've heard so many different things about this topic over the years. [00:00:23] But, you know, this is really kind of a continuation of last week, talking about, you know, [00:00:30] the storms of fear and doubt and talking about stepping out of the boat, you know, stepping [00:00:36] out of the boat into the miraculous of God. [00:00:39] And how much of the church just absolutely refuses to step out of the boat. [00:00:44] They're quite satisfied to sit in the safety and security or relative safety and security [00:00:50] of the boat and not step out there on the storming waters with Jesus to see the miraculous, [00:00:58] to see the powerful things that God wants to do. [00:01:02] And so I want to talk to you today a little bit about, I've entitled this, the blaspheming [00:01:07] of the Holy Spirit, but I could also call this communing with the Holy Spirit. [00:01:13] You kind of have this wide spectrum, I mean, what I'm kind of giving you is what we should [00:01:20] be doing, communing, cooperating, partnering with the Holy Spirit, versus blaspheming [00:01:28] resisting, quenching, grieving the Holy Spirit. [00:01:31] We're going to look at all of this today, and we're going to look at the Bible. [00:01:35] So we can start with the PowerPoint here. [00:01:39] We're going to go first to John chapter 16. [00:01:45] Again, we've entitled this today, Blaspheming the Holy Spirit. [00:01:50] There's an artist illustration of the day of Pentecost when the Bible says the Holy [00:01:55] Spirit came. [00:01:57] The promise of Jesus, I will baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire. [00:02:02] And on the day of Pentecost, 120 disciples were in the upper room, not just the 12 apostles, [00:02:09] but 120 were in the upper room. [00:02:13] And the Bible says the Holy Spirit came, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. [00:02:17] It said he came like a rushing mighty wind. [00:02:19] He filled all the house where they were sitting, cloven tongues like as a fire set upon each [00:02:24] of them, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues [00:02:29] as the Spirit gave them other tongues. [00:02:30] Now this is the Bible, yet we've got people who call themselves Christians that fight this, [00:02:38] resist this, and blaspheme this operation of the Holy Spirit. [00:02:44] We're going to talk about that today, because frankly, I'm going to be honest. [00:02:48] I think I've been far too nice. [00:02:51] I've been far too nice with the so-called Christians who blaspheme the Holy Spirit. [00:02:58] So we're going to look at what Jesus called, not what Pastor Dean called, but we're going [00:03:02] to look at what Jesus called, blaspheming the Holy Spirit. [00:03:06] Now I want you to turn. [00:03:07] I know I said, John, hold your spot there. [00:03:10] We can go ahead and... [00:03:11] Well, we can go to 2 Corinthians chapter 13 first, and let's just look at this word first, [00:03:18] communion. [00:03:20] Everything when you say communion, you're talking about taking the elements, the bread and the [00:03:25] wine and having the Lord suffer, but it's much more than that, much more than just the bread [00:03:32] and the wine. [00:03:33] Now let's read this here. [00:03:35] This is 2 Corinthians chapter 13, 10 through 14. [00:03:38] Here's what it says, therefore, Paul said, I write these things being absent, lest being [00:03:43] present I should use sharpness according to the power which the Lord hath given me to [00:03:48] edification and not to destruction. [00:03:51] Finally, brethren, farewell, be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace, [00:03:59] and the God of love and peace shall be with you. [00:04:01] Greet one another with a holy kiss, all the saints salute you. [00:04:05] Now look at the verse 14 here, the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of [00:04:10] God and the communion of the Holy Ghost be with you all. [00:04:16] How many of you have read that and just skip right over that? [00:04:19] How many of you have ever stopped and looked at this word? [00:04:22] What does it mean? [00:04:23] I mean, we will talk about the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and we talk about the love [00:04:27] of God, but do we talk about the communion with the Holy Spirit? [00:04:32] Now as I'm going to talk about the Holy Spirit today, I want you to understand that [00:04:38] I do believe in the Trinity. [00:04:39] I've been accused lately that I'm a heretic concerning the Trinity. [00:04:43] Now, I just don't take the unscriptural definition that's used that God's three [00:04:49] persons are three different people. [00:04:52] He is one God and has three very distinct parts of Him. [00:04:57] And those very distinct parts are very important. [00:05:00] It's very clear that we make a distinction that there are three very distinct aspects [00:05:05] to God. He is a triune God. [00:05:08] That is just fact. [00:05:10] But, you know, again, this same individual I'm going to be discussing today called me [00:05:16] a heretic because I don't give the traditional fourth century church doctrine [00:05:24] statement of person. [00:05:25] And you know that this issue anyway was hotly debated within the church. [00:05:29] Many good Christian brothers and sisters who accept the deity of Jesus Christ [00:05:34] that Jesus is the fullness of the Godhead bodily debated hotly. [00:05:38] This issue of the nature of God is a triune being and how that works and what [00:05:42] that means and all of this. [00:05:45] But I think you're clearly within orthodoxy and biblical to say God is one. [00:05:53] Does it not say in Deuteronomy, Here O Israel, the Lord thy God is one. [00:05:58] There is no other. Isaiah said the Lord Yahweh is one. [00:06:03] There is no other God beside Him. [00:06:06] Right? There is no other Savior beside Him. [00:06:09] So you have to deal with one God. [00:06:11] Galatians says He is the fullness, Jesus Christ, the fullness of the Godhead bodily. [00:06:17] Fullness, not the right hand as been said, not just the Son. [00:06:24] That's one title. [00:06:27] But He is the fullness of the Godhead bodily. [00:06:29] Very distinct, different parts, but one God, not three different people. [00:06:37] And by the way, in describing the triune nature of God, let's just go ahead and get this out here. [00:06:43] In describing the triune nature of God, the word persons, three persons, is not used in the Scripture. [00:06:50] I dare anybody to show me that one. [00:06:52] It's kind of like the word rapture is not used either. [00:06:55] There's a lot of words that aren't used. [00:06:58] Oh, but anyway, and then it's funny, I got accused too. [00:07:01] I actually happened to see yesterday that I got accused of the video where I was [00:07:06] teaching this for two hours and going through the Scriptures on it from taking the video down. [00:07:10] I said, oh, he took the video down. [00:07:13] He knows he's in there. [00:07:14] The video is still there. [00:07:15] These people will just lie. [00:07:17] I mean, they will just lie to you. [00:07:20] And you know what? [00:07:20] If you got a lie, you're the one with the agenda, not me. [00:07:25] Liars have their part in the lake of fire anyway, so you better stop the line. [00:07:31] Well, let's look at this word communion of the Holy Spirit. [00:07:34] It's a simple word here, kononia. [00:07:37] We've all heard it. [00:07:38] I hope you can see this. [00:07:39] We're going to read down. [00:07:40] This is the Strong's Greek dictionary. [00:07:43] Here it talks about partnership, participation, social intercourse, [00:07:49] benefaction, communicate or communication, fellowship. [00:07:55] I mean, you see this word. [00:07:56] It's pretty awesome. [00:07:57] Fellowship, association, community. [00:08:00] I love the fact that it says communicate, partnership, participation. [00:08:06] I mean, here Paul is saying to the Corinthians, [00:08:09] I pray that the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. [00:08:14] That's good. [00:08:16] I pray that the love of God be with you. [00:08:18] That's good. [00:08:19] But I also pray that the communion, the partnership, [00:08:24] the communication that you can have with the Holy Spirit, [00:08:28] that that's in your life as well. [00:08:31] Communication. [00:08:32] Folks, what does communication mean? [00:08:36] If me and you, Marlene, are communicating, [00:08:39] is it just me talking or are we talking together? [00:08:43] That's right. [00:08:44] If we're communicating, I am talking and listening, right? [00:08:50] I'm listening to you talk to me and you're listening to me talk to you. [00:08:54] That's communication. [00:08:56] It's never, ever God wanted this relationship with him [00:09:00] to be one way where he's silent, [00:09:03] where he only speaks through the Scriptures. [00:09:05] He doesn't have any interaction with us. [00:09:10] I can't even tell you the truth. [00:09:12] Fathom Christians who would believe that nonsense. [00:09:15] That somehow the Holy Spirit is going to be in you. [00:09:19] You're going to be filled with the Holy Spirit [00:09:21] and there's going to be no communication, interaction, [00:09:24] or supernatural things going on in your life. [00:09:28] Except you got saved. [00:09:29] You were born again. [00:09:30] That's it. [00:09:31] It all ends there. [00:09:33] He's supernatural enough to regenerate you, [00:09:36] wash your sins away, make your dead spirit alive to God, [00:09:40] but nothing else can happen. [00:09:45] That's modern Christianity for you. [00:09:48] That's the Baptist and the Methodist [00:09:51] and the Presbyterians and the Lutheran. [00:09:53] Pretty much stops in salvation. [00:09:55] Your communion, fellowship, participation, [00:10:00] communication with the Holy Spirit. [00:10:03] Let's look at the word communion. [00:10:04] This is just the definition here in the, [00:10:08] just Google the definition. [00:10:10] And it's interesting. [00:10:11] The sharing or exchanging of intimate thoughts and feelings, [00:10:16] especially when the exchange is on a mental or spiritual level. [00:10:22] Isn't that interesting? [00:10:24] And of course, it talks about the service of Christian worship [00:10:28] which the bread and the wine are consecrated and shared [00:10:30] and the Lord's Supper. [00:10:32] But that's not what we're talking about today. [00:10:34] He's talking about the communion of the Holy Spirit, [00:10:37] not the communion of bread and wine. [00:10:38] He's talking about the communion with the Holy Spirit. [00:10:41] So he talks about, again, let's read that. [00:10:43] The sharing or exchanging of intimate thoughts and feelings, [00:10:48] especially when the exchange is on a mental and spiritual level. [00:10:53] We should have an exchange of thoughts and feelings [00:11:00] with the Holy Spirit when we spend time with Him. [00:11:04] When we spend time in prayer, [00:11:07] when we spend time fasting and seeking His face, [00:11:09] when we spend time in worship, singing and worshiping God, [00:11:13] when we get in our private time, reading the Scriptures, [00:11:16] talking to Him about what we're reading, [00:11:19] there should be an exchange of thought and feelings. [00:11:26] Intimacy with the Lord is what I'm talking about. [00:11:29] Now, do you think that you can have that [00:11:34] with the Holy Spirit of God, the Spirit of Jesus Christ? [00:11:38] Do you think you can have that kind of relationship, [00:11:40] that kind of communion and partnership and relationship [00:11:45] if you're at the same time resisting, quenching, opposing, grieving, [00:11:52] and even blaspheming? [00:11:55] No, that can't happen, right? [00:12:01] Let's keep going. [00:12:04] Now turn to John 16. [00:12:06] If you held your place, you ought to be there. [00:12:08] John 16. [00:12:13] And I know I've taught this before, [00:12:15] though I'm approaching it a little different this morning, [00:12:18] but how important it is. [00:12:22] You know, I love the story, and while you're turning there, [00:12:24] I'm just going to share this. [00:12:25] You know, I love the story of Samuel and the prophet [00:12:28] when he was young, you know, [00:12:30] and how his mother so wanted a child, [00:12:34] and she couldn't have a child, [00:12:36] and she cried out and cried out and sought God. [00:12:38] And finally, God granted her her prayer, [00:12:41] and she had promised to dedicate that child fully to the Lord. [00:12:44] And she finally, she raises Samuel till about 12 years old [00:12:48] and then takes him to the temple [00:12:50] and says to the high priest, [00:12:51] here, he's for the service of the Lord. [00:12:54] And what's beautiful, [00:12:55] we know that Samuel was called to be a prophet by God. [00:12:57] A prophet in the Old Testament, [00:12:59] a prophet was pretty much, [00:13:02] they were the ones that had this fellowship [00:13:05] with the Holy Spirit. [00:13:06] They're the ones that would hear his voice [00:13:10] and understand what he was saying and showing them. [00:13:13] They would hear the word of the Lord. [00:13:14] They would see the visions and dreams. [00:13:16] They would have that interaction with God, [00:13:19] and then they would tell other people. [00:13:22] And what's beautiful in that story of Samuel, [00:13:23] Samuel was dedicated to the Lord from birth, [00:13:26] and then he's in the temple serving. [00:13:29] And it says that, you know, [00:13:31] it said he did not yet know the Lord though. [00:13:34] What was he talking about? [00:13:35] He did not yet know the voice of the Lord. [00:13:37] And so, one night, Samuel's going to bed [00:13:40] and he hears the Lord, Samuel. [00:13:43] He thinks he lies, the high priest, [00:13:45] he runs to Eli. [00:13:46] You called me, no, I didn't. [00:13:48] This happened several times, [00:13:49] and finally, the backslidden old priest [00:13:53] finally figures out, [00:13:54] you know what? [00:13:54] God's talking to this young man. [00:13:59] And he says, go back, [00:14:01] and this time say, [00:14:02] speak, Lord, my servant here. [00:14:06] Now, you think about that. [00:14:07] That began one of the most beautiful [00:14:11] relationships you see between God and a man. [00:14:17] Samuel, it said, in fact, [00:14:18] he had such a relationship with God [00:14:21] that it said none of his words [00:14:22] ever fell to the ground. [00:14:25] He walked with God. [00:14:27] He heard God. [00:14:28] He listened to God. [00:14:29] He talked to God. [00:14:30] He interceded for the nation, [00:14:32] for the King. [00:14:34] He did what God told him to do. [00:14:36] Even at times, you know, [00:14:37] I remember when he goes to anoint David. [00:14:39] He goes to anoint David. [00:14:41] He sees all his brothers [00:14:42] and he sees Eliab, the eldest, [00:14:45] you know, the firstborn, [00:14:46] the tallest, the strongest, [00:14:48] the most handsome. [00:14:48] He says, surely that's the Lord's anointed. [00:14:50] The Lord said no. [00:14:53] I mean, even old Samuel, [00:14:54] the prophet said, [00:14:55] was thinking in the natural. [00:14:57] But again, he's listening [00:14:58] to the Holy Spirit. [00:14:59] He has this interaction. [00:15:01] He's listening. [00:15:02] He's sensitive. [00:15:03] He has this. [00:15:05] No, he can hear the Lord saying, [00:15:06] no, no, no, no, son. [00:15:08] That's not it. [00:15:10] Oh, how we need that. [00:15:12] You think if Samuel had that [00:15:14] in the Old Testament, [00:15:16] the Bible says we have in [00:15:18] the New Testament, [00:15:19] we have a better covenant [00:15:20] with better promises. [00:15:23] They had to go through the blood [00:15:24] of bulls and goats and lambs. [00:15:26] We go through the blood [00:15:28] of God Himself in the flesh, [00:15:30] the blood of Jesus Christ. [00:15:34] Don't tell me we can't all. [00:15:36] And in fact, [00:15:37] God says in Hebrews 10 [00:15:38] that it is through the blood of Jesus [00:15:40] that we can all enter into [00:15:42] the Holy of Holies, [00:15:45] experience the very manifest presence of God, [00:15:48] see His glory, [00:15:49] feel His glory, [00:15:50] experience Him, [00:15:52] and have a communion with Him. [00:15:55] That's what, to me, [00:15:56] what's so beautiful [00:15:56] about the New Covenant. [00:15:58] Jesus just opened the door [00:16:00] for everybody. [00:16:02] Whosoever will. [00:16:04] Come on in. [00:16:06] Commune with the Lord. [00:16:08] Fellowship. [00:16:10] Converse. [00:16:11] Communicate. [00:16:12] Let me tell you, [00:16:17] there's nothing better. [00:16:18] Nothing better in this life. [00:16:21] Nothing. [00:16:21] And there will be nothing better [00:16:23] in the next life [00:16:24] than to sit down with the Lord, [00:16:26] the Creator of heaven and earth, [00:16:28] Yahweh, Elohim, [00:16:30] the Lord Jesus Christ, [00:16:31] to sit down with Him [00:16:33] and let Him talk to you [00:16:35] and you feel His presence [00:16:36] and His peace [00:16:37] and His love [00:16:38] and His joy [00:16:39] and you hear what He's saying. [00:16:42] Well, what's so beautiful? [00:16:43] We can have that now. [00:16:46] And we've been robbed [00:16:48] by churches [00:16:49] and doctrines of men [00:16:50] and traditions of men. [00:17:00] See, I thank God years ago [00:17:02] when I came back to the Lord at 19. [00:17:05] I did not let any man, [00:17:09] any teacher, [00:17:11] any pastor, [00:17:12] any rabbi, [00:17:14] or anybody else [00:17:16] rob from what I was simply reading [00:17:23] of what this book was telling me [00:17:29] you can have. [00:17:31] See, this book right here, [00:17:32] this is what we're saying, [00:17:34] here's what you can have, son. [00:17:38] Here's what you can... [00:17:39] Let's read it. [00:17:40] John 16. [00:17:42] Of course, you know, [00:17:44] the doctrines of men, [00:17:46] the dead teachers, [00:17:48] the ones who are all talk [00:17:51] but no do. [00:17:53] Right? [00:17:54] They'll tell you, [00:17:55] oh, this was only for the 12 apostles. [00:17:59] Of course, it's ridiculous. [00:18:02] Because remember, [00:18:03] it was just for the 12. [00:18:05] Why did God bother [00:18:06] with those 120 in the upper room? [00:18:11] Why did God bother [00:18:13] years later after Pentecost [00:18:15] with those 12 disciples in Ephesus? [00:18:16] Why did He bother [00:18:18] baptizing them in the Holy Spirit [00:18:20] and giving them the gift of tongues [00:18:22] and the gift of prophecy? [00:18:23] Why did He bother? [00:18:24] Why did He say in Acts 2, [00:18:26] in the last days, [00:18:28] I will pour out My Spirit [00:18:30] and your sons and your daughters [00:18:32] will prophesy, [00:18:33] your young men will see visions [00:18:34] and dream dreams. [00:18:35] He's talking about the gifts [00:18:37] of the Holy Spirit, [00:18:38] the interaction, [00:18:39] the communion of the Holy Spirit. [00:18:41] I believe we've only begun to see [00:18:44] what's going to be poured out on us [00:18:46] as the days get darker [00:18:48] in the days ahead. [00:18:49] And He's going to pour His Spirit [00:18:51] in and upon people [00:18:54] who are hungry [00:18:55] and thirsty [00:18:56] and want Him. [00:18:57] Not on people resisting. [00:19:01] Not on people doubting. [00:19:03] Not on people speaking again. [00:19:10] I'm telling you, [00:19:12] they're just empty shells out there. [00:19:15] Empty shell. [00:19:19] You know, it's funny. [00:19:21] You take a big old seashell, [00:19:23] it's empty. [00:19:23] There's nothing in there. [00:19:25] As you put it up to here, [00:19:26] it does make a sound. [00:19:29] You hear a sound, [00:19:29] but there's nothing there. [00:19:31] That's most of these Christians. [00:19:33] They hear a sound, [00:19:33] but there's nothing. [00:19:35] They're empty. [00:19:37] They really hate the things of God, [00:19:39] the true things. [00:19:44] Oh, no, I love Jesus, [00:19:45] but I don't want anything [00:19:47] about the Holy Spirit. [00:19:49] You say, well, yes, what? [00:19:50] Who you sound like? [00:19:52] Out of the Pharisees, [00:19:54] we want the Messiah, [00:19:55] but this guy running around, [00:19:56] healing on the Sabbath, [00:19:58] and casting out demons. [00:19:59] He's doing that like it was about. [00:20:02] We want the Messiah, [00:20:03] but we don't want the supernatural. [00:20:07] Oh, no. [00:20:10] Back to Sadducees. [00:20:11] He didn't even believe in it. [00:20:13] The Pharisees believed in it, [00:20:14] but had none of it. [00:20:16] Isn't that interesting? [00:20:19] John 16, verse 7. [00:20:22] Jesus said this. [00:20:23] Nevertheless, I tell you the truth. [00:20:25] It is expedient for you [00:20:27] that I go away, [00:20:28] for if I go not away, [00:20:29] the Comforter will not come unto you. [00:20:31] But if I depart, [00:20:32] I will send him unto you. [00:20:34] And when he has come, [00:20:34] he will reprove the world of sin, [00:20:36] of righteousness, of judgment, [00:20:39] of sin because they believe not on me, [00:20:41] of righteousness, [00:20:41] because I go to my Father, [00:20:43] and you see me no more, [00:20:45] of judgment, [00:20:45] because the Prince of this world is judged. [00:20:48] And then Jesus says, [00:20:49] I have many things to say unto you, [00:20:52] but you cannot bear them now. [00:20:54] Now, think about this. [00:20:54] Jesus, this is the end. [00:20:56] This is the end. [00:20:57] This is right before the crucifixion. [00:20:58] And Jesus, I have many things to say to you, [00:21:00] but you can't bear them. [00:21:02] You can't receive it right now. [00:21:04] When is he going to say them? [00:21:07] Once he dies and ascends, [00:21:09] say, well, oh, [00:21:10] maybe he said it all in that 40 days. [00:21:13] Well, then, [00:21:13] what is he talking about right here? [00:21:16] When he says, [00:21:16] how be it? [00:21:18] When he, [00:21:19] the Holy Spirit, [00:21:21] the Spirit of truth has come, [00:21:23] he will guide you into all truth. [00:21:26] For he shall not speak of himself, [00:21:27] but whatsoever he shall hear, [00:21:30] that shall he speak, [00:21:31] and he will show you things to come. [00:21:35] He shall glorify me, [00:21:37] for he shall receive of mine, [00:21:39] and shall show it unto you. [00:21:40] All things that the Father hath are mine. [00:21:42] Therefore said I, [00:21:44] that he shall take of mine, [00:21:45] and shall it unto you. [00:21:48] So here, Jesus is not talking about, [00:21:49] when he says, [00:21:50] I have many things to say to you, [00:21:51] but you cannot bear them now. [00:21:53] The context is, [00:21:55] when I send the Comforter, [00:21:57] when I send the Spirit of truth, [00:21:58] when I send the Holy Spirit, [00:22:00] when did the Holy Spirit come [00:22:02] to the church [00:22:04] on the day of Pentecost? [00:22:07] So that's what Jesus is talking about. [00:22:08] I have many things to say to you, [00:22:12] but he's going to say, [00:22:15] will you be listed? [00:22:17] You say, oh, that was just for the 12th, [00:22:19] so they could write the Scriptures. [00:22:22] No, last time I checked Acts 2, [00:22:25] right after the day of Pentecost, [00:22:28] Peter stands up [00:22:29] and he preaches and he says, [00:22:30] this is that, [00:22:32] which was promised, prophesied [00:22:34] by the prophet Joel, right? [00:22:37] Talking about this outpouring [00:22:39] of the Holy Spirit, [00:22:40] this, the gift of tongues, [00:22:41] the gift of prophecy, [00:22:42] the gifts of healing [00:22:43] and working in miracles, [00:22:46] this baptism of fire. [00:22:49] He says this, [00:22:51] he goes on down in the chapter [00:22:52] after he says, [00:22:53] men and brother, [00:22:53] when he preaches to the crowd of 3,000 [00:22:55] and they say, [00:22:55] men and brother, [00:22:56] what shall we do? [00:22:57] And Peter says what? [00:22:58] Repent and be baptized [00:23:00] every one of you [00:23:01] in the name of Jesus Christ [00:23:03] for the remission of sins [00:23:04] and ye shall receive the gift [00:23:06] of the Holy Ghost [00:23:08] for this promise is unto you [00:23:10] and to your children [00:23:11] and to all them [00:23:12] that are afar off, [00:23:13] even as many as our Lord shall call. [00:23:18] That's pretty clear to me, [00:23:19] but then we have men come along, [00:23:21] teachers, preachers, pastors, [00:23:24] seminary professors. [00:23:26] Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no. [00:23:28] This gift of the Holy Ghost stuff [00:23:31] is not for you. [00:23:33] Once the Bible was completed, [00:23:36] that was it. [00:23:41] Once the New Testament canon, [00:23:43] that's, that's, that's it. [00:23:50] As I've said so many times, [00:23:53] where, where, where in the Bible [00:23:56] can I find a scripture [00:23:59] that gives me direction [00:24:01] to leave Washington, D.C. [00:24:04] and come to Auburn, Alabama, [00:24:05] Opelike, Alabama [00:24:06] and start a church [00:24:09] being led by the Holy Spirit. [00:24:10] Where, give me the scripture, [00:24:12] somebody, Dean Odell, [00:24:14] go to your hometown [00:24:16] and start a church in 2009. [00:24:21] So how did, I asked one guy, [00:24:23] I had a preacher down in Florida, [00:24:25] you know what I'm talking about, [00:24:27] preacher down in Florida [00:24:28] arguing this with me. [00:24:32] And he was talking about, [00:24:34] you know, he had just taken, [00:24:36] at that time, [00:24:36] he had just taken [00:24:37] the pastorate of this church. [00:24:39] I think he'd been a youth pastor [00:24:40] or something like that. [00:24:41] And he had just taken the pastor. [00:24:42] So he said, [00:24:43] God doesn't speak anymore. [00:24:45] The Holy Spirit gives no, [00:24:47] there's no more. [00:24:48] The scripture was finished. [00:24:49] I'm gonna deal with that in a second. [00:24:51] But once the New Testament was done, [00:24:53] that was it. [00:24:55] Then I asked him, I said, [00:24:56] well, then how do you know [00:24:57] that you're in the will of God [00:25:01] to take the pastorate position [00:25:02] of this church? [00:25:03] How do you know? [00:25:05] Guess what? [00:25:06] That means you just decided [00:25:07] on your own. [00:25:10] How do you know the Holy Spirit, [00:25:14] it was the will of God [00:25:16] for you to be the pastor [00:25:18] of such and such church in Miami? [00:25:22] How do you know? [00:25:27] You know, he looked a bit befuddled [00:25:30] for a few minutes. [00:25:31] Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, [00:25:37] oh, oh, oh, oh, [00:25:41] exactly, exactly. [00:25:47] See, if Christians [00:25:50] were led by the Holy Spirit, [00:25:54] things would be a lot better. [00:25:57] A lot more things would get done. [00:25:59] God's will would get done. [00:26:01] More off. [00:26:04] More powerful. [00:26:08] I love it here though. [00:26:09] It says he shall speak. [00:26:11] He shall speak. [00:26:15] Let's keep going here. [00:26:19] Now, here's the first thing he says. [00:26:22] We're gonna look at the word [00:26:23] where it says resisting [00:26:24] the Holy Spirit. [00:26:25] Just gonna look at a few phrases [00:26:27] this morning that's used in the Bible. [00:26:29] You know, the Calvinists will say [00:26:31] you can't resist the Holy Spirit. [00:26:33] Irresistible grave. [00:26:34] You can't resist God. [00:26:36] Yeah, what does the Bible say? [00:26:40] You know, the anointed Holy Ghost [00:26:43] filled Deacon by the name of Stephen [00:26:46] who was doing great miracles [00:26:47] among the people. [00:26:48] Huh, wait a minute. [00:26:49] He wasn't one of the apostles, was he? [00:26:50] No, he wasn't. [00:26:53] He says he's a man of faith, [00:26:55] man of power, doing great miracles. [00:26:57] And finally, [00:26:59] they trump up some charges on him [00:27:00] and pull him before the Sanhedrin. [00:27:06] And what does he preach is a great message. [00:27:08] Acts chapter seven is a great sermon [00:27:11] that we get most of all of it. [00:27:15] But what does he say right now? [00:27:17] He tells these Pharisees. [00:27:19] Now remember, this is the same group of guys [00:27:22] that saw Jesus raise the dead, [00:27:24] heal the sick, cast out demons, [00:27:28] die on the cross. [00:27:30] They pushed Pilate to crucify him. [00:27:33] This is the same bunch of guys [00:27:35] that thought they knew the scriptures [00:27:37] and they knew the Bible [00:27:38] better than everybody else. [00:27:39] And he says to him, Stephen, [00:27:42] anointed, filled Holy Ghost, [00:27:44] tongue-talking, miracle-working believer [00:27:48] says, you stiffen it. [00:27:51] And uncircumcised in heart and ears, [00:27:53] you do always resist the Holy Ghost [00:27:57] as your fathers did. [00:27:59] So do you. [00:28:02] You see that? [00:28:04] Resist. [00:28:05] Of course, this ended bad for him. [00:28:09] What I love, they begin to stone him [00:28:13] and he just, the man who had communion [00:28:17] with the Holy Spirit and not religion, [00:28:21] said, I see heaven open [00:28:23] and the Son of God standing [00:28:25] at the right hand of the majesty, William. [00:28:30] Oh, heaven open, I see heaven. [00:28:31] You know, that's what the prophets would say. [00:28:34] Ezekiel opens this book, [00:28:35] I saw heaven open. [00:28:40] And as they're stoning him to death, [00:28:43] he said, Lord, don't let this sin [00:28:46] be laid to the top. [00:28:52] That's someone in communion [00:28:56] with the Holy Spirit like that. [00:28:58] But he didn't, he didn't hold back. [00:28:59] He said, you stiffen that. [00:29:03] Can you imagine saying to a Jew, [00:29:08] a Jewish religious leader, [00:29:10] you're uncircumcised in heart and ears. [00:29:15] You know what I'm saying? [00:29:15] You're not even in covenant [00:29:17] with God at all, [00:29:19] but you think you are. [00:29:23] See, true preachers [00:29:24] sometimes sound a little rough. [00:29:28] They said, you resist. [00:29:29] Now, let's look at the word resist here. [00:29:32] You resist the Holy Spirit. [00:29:35] What does this mean here? [00:29:37] The word resists. [00:29:38] And say, pepo, pepto, whatever. [00:29:42] I don't even know. [00:29:43] It says to fall upon, run against, [00:29:46] be adverse, oppose, strive again. [00:29:49] Down here, including its alternates, [00:29:51] says to oppose or to resist. [00:29:53] The word oppose means to disapprove of, [00:29:55] attempt to prevent, [00:29:56] especially by argument, actively resist, [00:29:59] refuse to comply, resist. [00:30:05] Think about it. [00:30:07] The whole time, these guys, [00:30:10] Jesus, can you imagine the crowd [00:30:17] and them see him test demons [00:30:20] out of a child [00:30:21] and they get, the child gets healed. [00:30:24] And they even acknowledged [00:30:26] that he truly raised Lazarus [00:30:27] from the dead and said, [00:30:29] we got to get rid of him and Lazarus. [00:30:38] But so stiffly, [00:30:41] so self-governed by their own pride [00:30:46] and their own agenda, [00:30:50] they just refused. [00:30:52] No, he's not the Messiah. [00:30:54] All of his miracles, [00:30:56] all of his power, [00:30:57] all of his work. [00:31:00] He's doing it. [00:31:01] Demon. [00:31:02] He's a magician. [00:31:03] He's a sorcerer. [00:31:13] Crucify. [00:31:14] Give us Barabbin. [00:31:20] Church is no different. [00:31:22] Like this little twit, [00:31:23] Noel Hadley. [00:31:25] Noel J. Hadley. [00:31:29] He's just written his third article, [00:31:32] second and third article, [00:31:35] now attacking, saying that, [00:31:38] the Pentecostal outpouring [00:31:40] of the early late 19, [00:31:44] I mean late 1800s, early 1900s, [00:31:46] saying that that was demonic [00:31:49] of the mystery school. [00:31:56] He doesn't even know what he's talking about. [00:32:00] And then he wants to bring up, [00:32:01] he wants to bring up some scandal [00:32:03] that happened between [00:32:04] Charles Parham and Seymour. [00:32:08] I mean, do you really want me [00:32:09] to start bringing up [00:32:10] the Baptist scandal going on? [00:32:12] There's never been a scandal [00:32:14] in the Baptist church. [00:32:16] No, the heads of the [00:32:17] Southern Baptist Convention [00:32:18] just had to resign over [00:32:20] an inappropriate relationship. [00:32:25] Shall we? [00:32:28] I mean, goodness, [00:32:29] we can find scandals [00:32:30] in every realm, [00:32:32] every facet of the church [00:32:34] as we know it. [00:32:36] That doesn't mean you attribute [00:32:37] the gifts of the Holy Spirit [00:32:39] to being demonic, [00:32:44] yet he takes that leap, [00:32:48] blasting, he's blasting. [00:32:52] I'll prove it to you in a second. [00:32:54] Just using him as an illustration. [00:32:56] He's just one of many, really. [00:32:59] John MacArthur is another one. [00:33:03] I mean, these guys [00:33:05] get hateful and angry [00:33:08] as you talk about [00:33:10] the baptism of the Holy Spirit, [00:33:12] the gift of tongues. [00:33:13] Oh boy. [00:33:15] I put it on Facebook yesterday [00:33:17] because it's true. [00:33:19] Aside from salvation, [00:33:21] being born again [00:33:21] through the blood of Jesus, [00:33:23] the devil hates, [00:33:25] in second, to that, [00:33:27] the devil absolutely hates [00:33:29] any talk, preaching, or faith [00:33:32] in the power and gifts [00:33:34] of the Holy Spirit [00:33:35] and especially the gift of tongues. [00:33:38] Because guess what? [00:33:39] You know what? [00:33:39] He hates the gift of tongues so bad [00:33:42] because that actually is the gift [00:33:44] that helps you in prayer. [00:33:49] It helps you in prayer, [00:33:51] strengthens your spirit, man. [00:33:54] And through tongues and interpretation [00:33:56] actually begins to teach you [00:33:57] how to listen and hear [00:33:58] the voice of God, [00:34:00] be led by the Spirit. [00:34:01] The devil hates the gift [00:34:04] of the Holy Spirit, [00:34:05] especially the gifts of tongues. [00:34:10] And this hatred you see, [00:34:12] and let me tell you what, [00:34:13] anyone who goes out of their way [00:34:16] to resist, oppose, [00:34:19] fight against, prevent, [00:34:22] argue again, [00:34:24] the gifts of the Holy Spirit, [00:34:26] the communion of the Holy Spirit [00:34:27] between believers, [00:34:28] between God and His believers, [00:34:31] His sons and daughters, [00:34:32] anybody that goes out of their way [00:34:33] to do that is under the influence of Satan. [00:34:40] Just like the Pharisees. [00:34:42] The Pharisees. [00:34:43] Jesus told them, [00:34:45] your scriptures you think, [00:34:46] search those scriptures, Pharisees, [00:34:49] in them you think you have eternal life. [00:34:56] These people, [00:34:58] these little scholars out there, [00:35:01] these little self-made scholars, [00:35:04] I don't care how many degrees [00:35:06] they have beside their name. [00:35:09] And I'm talking about theological degrees. [00:35:11] If they resist, oppose, [00:35:14] argue, deny, reject, [00:35:20] diminish in anyone [00:35:22] the gifts of the Holy Spirit [00:35:24] manifesting and operating [00:35:26] within true believers in Jesus Christ. [00:35:29] They are under [00:35:30] the panic influence. [00:35:33] They are a tool of the devil. [00:35:40] Now, of course, [00:35:42] are there counterfeit [00:35:43] supernatural manifestations? [00:35:45] Absolutely. [00:35:48] There's always been. [00:35:51] Always. [00:35:52] Go all the way back to Egypt. [00:35:55] Moses had his rod. [00:35:56] The Egyptian magicians had their rod. [00:35:59] Moses throws his down. [00:36:01] It turns into a serpent. [00:36:02] The Egyptian magicians [00:36:03] throw their rods down. [00:36:05] They turn into a serpent. [00:36:06] This battle has always been going on. [00:36:12] I'm not afraid of the [00:36:14] counterfeit out there. [00:36:15] I want to take the real power of God, [00:36:18] gifts of the Holy Spirit. [00:36:21] I'm going to take the real [00:36:23] and just like Moses' serpent [00:36:25] devoured there. [00:36:28] That's the power we have. [00:36:34] But you can't have that power [00:36:36] if you deny it, [00:36:37] don't believe it, [00:36:38] resist it, [00:36:39] speak against it, [00:36:40] argue against it, [00:36:41] make stupid theological arguments [00:36:43] like, [00:36:44] done away with. [00:36:48] Where do you get that stuff? [00:36:51] Oh, I know where you got it from. [00:36:53] Other resistive. [00:36:56] I'll show you that [00:36:57] all their arguments are [00:36:58] are just terrible. [00:37:00] They're just ludicrous. [00:37:01] They are not biblical. [00:37:03] But let's go on here. [00:37:05] Let's go to the next thing. [00:37:06] First Thessalonians. [00:37:08] Chapter 5. [00:37:11] Verse 16. [00:37:13] Then we saw in Acts 7 [00:37:15] about resisting the Holy Spirit, [00:37:17] opposing, [00:37:19] fighting again, arguing again. [00:37:21] How can a Christian do that? [00:37:24] You know what I'm saying? [00:37:25] We sing that song a minute ago. [00:37:26] Those of you that [00:37:27] that came in watching us, [00:37:28] you didn't get to hear that song, [00:37:29] but we were singing that song. [00:37:31] More. [00:37:31] We want more of your spirit, [00:37:32] more of your power. [00:37:33] How could you say no? [00:37:35] No, thanks, God. [00:37:36] I got I'm good. [00:37:38] I'm good. [00:37:42] I got my dead church [00:37:43] and my Bible. [00:37:43] It's all a need. [00:37:47] Or I've got my, [00:37:48] you know, [00:37:50] I've got my RV [00:37:56] and a keyboard. [00:37:57] That's all I got. [00:37:59] No fruit, Mike. [00:38:02] Let's look at this. [00:38:02] First Thessalonians 5, [00:38:03] 16 through 25. [00:38:04] Rejoice evermore. [00:38:07] Pray without ceasing. [00:38:09] In everything give thanks, [00:38:11] for this is the will of God [00:38:12] in Christ Jesus concerning you. [00:38:14] Quench not the spirit. [00:38:16] Despise not prophesying. [00:38:19] Prove all things. [00:38:20] Hold fast to that which is good. [00:38:22] Abstain from all appearance of evil [00:38:24] and the very God of peace. [00:38:25] Sanctify you wholly or completely. [00:38:26] And I pray God your whole spirit, [00:38:28] soul and body be preserved blameless [00:38:30] under the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. [00:38:32] Faithful is he that calleth you [00:38:34] who will also do it. [00:38:35] Brother and pray for us. [00:38:37] Let's go back up. [00:38:37] Let's look at this. [00:38:38] Quench not the spirit. [00:38:39] Despise not prophesied. [00:38:41] Quench not the spirit. [00:38:44] So let's look at what [00:38:45] quench means here. [00:38:46] This is the Greek definition [00:38:49] for quench and the Google definition. [00:38:51] Let's just look at it. [00:38:53] This sebeneumae or however [00:38:55] you say this word means [00:38:57] to extinguish quench of fire [00:39:00] or things on fire to be quench [00:39:02] to go out to quench to suppress [00:39:04] stifle of the divine influence. [00:39:07] The Strong's definition [00:39:08] simply says to extinguish [00:39:10] to go out to quit. [00:39:12] The word quench here [00:39:14] really is the what we're looking at [00:39:15] is the second definition of this word [00:39:17] to extinguish a fire. [00:39:19] All right. [00:39:20] So Paul tells us here [00:39:23] very clearly [00:39:25] by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit [00:39:27] not to extinguish [00:39:30] the fire of the Holy Spirit. [00:39:32] Now think about the term [00:39:34] he uses here. [00:39:36] Remember on the day of Pentecost [00:39:38] and before that really in Acts 1 [00:39:39] Jesus said you know and John [00:39:42] we could go back to the Gospels [00:39:44] and you see John the Baptist say [00:39:45] there's one coming after me [00:39:47] he's going to baptize you [00:39:48] in the Holy Ghost and fire. [00:39:49] I baptize you in water [00:39:50] but there's one coming [00:39:51] he's going to baptize you [00:39:52] in the Holy Ghost and fire. [00:39:54] And so on the day of Pentecost [00:39:56] God let it be seen [00:39:57] just kind of like the burning bush [00:39:58] he let that Moses see it. [00:40:01] But on the day of Pentecost [00:40:02] when the gift of tongues [00:40:04] supernatural tongue came into the church [00:40:07] and the gift of prophecy [00:40:08] when the infilling, the fullness, [00:40:10] the total immersion and overflow [00:40:13] of the Holy Spirit came to the church [00:40:15] it came with the sign or a fire. [00:40:20] It is distinct. [00:40:21] He says quench not [00:40:23] don't extinguish the fire [00:40:27] of the Holy Spirit. [00:40:29] Tongues of fire. [00:40:30] Oh, isn't that interesting? [00:40:33] In fact, you go to 1 Corinthians 14 [00:40:36] and what does he say? [00:40:37] Forbid not. [00:40:38] He ends the chapter with [00:40:40] forbid not to speak with tongues [00:40:43] mean don't tell anyone [00:40:46] that this is not for today [00:40:47] or try to dissuade them [00:40:49] or hinder them in any way. [00:40:56] So I think he's saying [00:40:57] the same thing here. [00:40:58] And then he he goes on [00:40:59] and he says despise not prophesying. [00:41:04] Well, if you look this up here [00:41:05] I hear the word despise. [00:41:08] Here it is again [00:41:10] to make no of no account [00:41:12] to despise utterly [00:41:14] to be seen to be contemptible to you [00:41:18] least esteem to set it [00:41:19] not as if it is nothing. [00:41:22] And of course, the word despise [00:41:23] here in Google field contempt [00:41:25] or deep repugnant for [00:41:27] I know so-called Christian believers [00:41:29] like Noel Hadley [00:41:31] who cannot stand the idea [00:41:35] that the gift of prophecy [00:41:37] is really real and work. [00:41:39] He's mocked me [00:41:41] because I operate in the gift [00:41:44] of prophecy sometimes. [00:41:51] So he's a mocker, a scoffer [00:41:54] and a blast. [00:41:56] And yet people still [00:42:00] know you're so wise. [00:42:05] But they do this [00:42:06] to these Bible school professors. [00:42:09] And John MacArthur. [00:42:10] Oh, John, I got to have your study Bible. [00:42:13] I got to have your book [00:42:14] Charismatic Chaos. [00:42:16] So I know that all of these things [00:42:18] that's happening [00:42:19] all of these Pentecostals [00:42:20] and Charismatic [00:42:21] they're all a bunch of coop. [00:42:24] But yet you believe what Calvin. [00:42:31] Oh, one day. [00:42:31] One day soon. [00:42:33] We're going to tell the whole truth [00:42:35] about Don Calvin. [00:42:36] The whole ugly, miserable truth [00:42:39] about all of his demonic doctrines [00:42:42] that came from Gnosticism [00:42:43] and Augustine and everything else. [00:42:45] Man has no free will. [00:42:47] Man cannot resist God. [00:42:48] All this stupid nonsense. [00:42:51] His entire denominations [00:42:52] and seminaries [00:42:53] they believe all this stuff. [00:42:57] They believe all this stuff [00:42:58] that's just totally unscriptural. [00:43:00] And then they [00:43:03] don't talk about [00:43:06] hearing the voice of God. [00:43:08] Don't talk about communion [00:43:09] with the Holy Spirit. [00:43:10] Don't talk about communication. [00:43:13] Two-way communication. [00:43:15] See, we just heard that demon speak up. [00:43:16] Was that woman on the view? [00:43:18] Joy, whatever her name is. [00:43:20] You know, Mike Pence [00:43:21] or somebody was talking about [00:43:23] or somebody saw my Christians [00:43:24] hearing Jesus speaking. [00:43:26] Go, you know, it's one thing [00:43:27] to talk to Jesus, she said. [00:43:29] It's another thing [00:43:29] if Jesus is talking to you. [00:43:31] Basically, if you think [00:43:32] you're hearing Jesus talk to you, [00:43:33] you're insane. [00:43:36] Now, of course, she had to come back [00:43:37] and apologize because she talked. [00:43:38] But black for that one. [00:43:44] It's funny. [00:43:44] She probably goes to fortune tellers [00:43:48] and New Age gurus [00:43:49] and listens to them [00:43:52] channel their spirits. [00:43:58] But you Christians, [00:43:59] if you dare believe [00:44:01] the Lord can speak to you [00:44:02] by his Holy Spirit, [00:44:04] you're crazy. [00:44:13] Now, let's look at the blasphemy [00:44:15] of the Holy Spirit. [00:44:16] We're going to go by what Jesus said. [00:44:18] Matthew chapter 12. [00:44:19] I'm not going to go by [00:44:19] what Pastor Dean says. [00:44:20] We're not going to go by [00:44:21] what any commentary says. [00:44:23] We're going to go by [00:44:24] what how Jesus defined it [00:44:26] and what the word means itself. [00:44:29] Okay, so let's go to Matthew 12. [00:44:32] Let's see. [00:44:32] Yep, actually, [00:44:35] I'm going to actually turn there myself. [00:44:38] See, it's a very dangerous thing. [00:44:47] Very dangerous. [00:44:49] It's one thing to resist [00:44:51] the Holy Spirit. [00:44:55] How to ignore it. [00:44:56] Maybe we can make the argument [00:44:58] the Pharisees were ignorant, right? [00:45:01] Okay, they were not born again. [00:45:03] So we can say [00:45:04] the poor Pharisees [00:45:05] that Stephen was talking to, [00:45:07] they were just ignorant. [00:45:08] They weren't born again. [00:45:09] So, you know, [00:45:11] of course, they're going to resist [00:45:12] the Holy Spirit [00:45:13] because they weren't saved. [00:45:14] Okay. [00:45:15] But then Paul writing to Christian, [00:45:19] the Church of Thessalonica, [00:45:21] don't quench the Holy Spirit, [00:45:23] Christian. [00:45:25] Don't put out the Holy Spirit fire. [00:45:29] How would you do that? [00:45:31] Sin, unbelief. [00:45:34] How about saying, [00:45:35] not for us? [00:45:37] I think that would qualify. [00:45:39] All right. [00:45:42] And of course, [00:45:43] in Ephesians 4, [00:45:44] he says, [00:45:45] in the midst of talking about, [00:45:48] actually, Ephesians 4, [00:45:49] he talks about the ministry gifts, [00:45:51] apostles, prophets, [00:45:52] evangelists, pastors, teachers. [00:45:54] And then he goes on down [00:45:55] and he talks about, [00:45:55] you know, [00:45:56] stop living in sin. [00:45:59] And he says, [00:45:59] grieve not the Holy Spirit. [00:46:02] He's talking to Christians there. [00:46:04] I mean, [00:46:04] you can grieve the Holy Spirit. [00:46:05] If you want to keep sinning, [00:46:07] you want to live in sin. [00:46:07] You want to be a liar. [00:46:08] You want to be a thief. [00:46:09] You want to be a fornicator. [00:46:11] You want to be a hypocrite. [00:46:11] You want to be an adult. [00:46:13] You're going to grieve, [00:46:14] cause him sorrow and pain. [00:46:18] What that word means. [00:46:21] But here, [00:46:21] Jesus said something far more serious. [00:46:24] And I'm going to tell you, [00:46:27] Paul made this statement [00:46:28] before we talk about blasphemy. [00:46:30] If you read 1st Timothy, [00:46:31] Chapter 1, [00:46:32] Paul said this about himself. [00:46:35] He said, [00:46:35] I was a blasphemer. [00:46:39] He said, [00:46:39] but I obtained mercy [00:46:42] because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. [00:46:46] Meaning Paul was saying, [00:46:47] I blasphemed God [00:46:49] before I was saved. [00:46:51] I blasphemed Jesus. [00:46:53] I blasphemed the Messiah. [00:46:54] I blasphemed the whole Christian thing. [00:46:56] I blasphemed, [00:46:58] but I did it ignorantly in unbelief. [00:47:00] I didn't know what I was talking about. [00:47:03] But when I, [00:47:03] you know, [00:47:04] but I obtained mercy [00:47:05] because of that, [00:47:06] but then Jesus, [00:47:07] so Jesus is talking about something else. [00:47:08] He's not talking about unbelievers here [00:47:10] when he's talking about [00:47:11] the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. [00:47:15] Can I just tell you? [00:47:18] The blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, [00:47:19] only someone with knowledge can. [00:47:24] Only someone who's experienced [00:47:28] salvation can do. [00:47:30] Let me show you. [00:47:31] Now he warns them. [00:47:33] You better watch it out. [00:47:36] Well, let's read. [00:47:38] We're going to start from verse 22 here. [00:47:41] Then was brought unto him, [00:47:43] Jesus, one brought unto Jesus, [00:47:45] rather, brought unto him, [00:47:47] one possessed with the devil, [00:47:48] blind and dumb, [00:47:49] and he healed him in so much [00:47:51] that the blind and dumb [00:47:52] both spake and saw. [00:47:53] And all the people were amazed [00:47:55] and said, [00:47:55] He's not this, [00:47:56] the Son of David. [00:47:57] But when the Pharisees heard it, [00:47:59] they said, [00:47:59] This fellow doth not cast out devils, [00:48:01] but by Beals above, [00:48:02] the Prince of the Devil. [00:48:04] And Jesus knew their thoughts [00:48:05] and said unto them, [00:48:06] Every kingdom divided against itself [00:48:07] is brought to desolation, [00:48:08] and every city or house [00:48:09] divided against itself [00:48:11] shall not stand. [00:48:12] And if Satan cast out Satan, [00:48:13] he is divided against himself. [00:48:15] How shall then his kingdom stand? [00:48:17] And if I by Beals above cast out devils, [00:48:20] by whom do your children cast them out? [00:48:21] Therefore, they shall be your judges. [00:48:23] But if I cast out devils [00:48:25] by the Spirit of God, [00:48:26] then the kingdom of God [00:48:27] is coming to you. [00:48:28] Or else how could one enter [00:48:29] into a strong man's house [00:48:31] and spoil his goods, [00:48:32] except he first bind the strong man [00:48:34] and then he will spoil his house. [00:48:36] He that is not with me [00:48:37] is against me. [00:48:39] And he that gathers not with me [00:48:40] scattereth abroad. [00:48:41] Now listen to verse 31 and 32. [00:48:45] Wherefore I say unto you, [00:48:47] all manner of sin and blasphemy [00:48:49] shall be forgiven unto men. [00:48:50] But the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost [00:48:53] shall not be forgiven unto men. [00:48:55] And whosoever speaketh the word [00:48:56] against the Son of man, [00:48:57] that is Jesus, [00:48:58] it shall be forgiven him. [00:48:59] But whosoever speaketh against [00:49:01] the Holy Ghost, [00:49:03] it shall not be forgiven him [00:49:04] neither in this world, [00:49:06] neither in the world to come. [00:49:10] Speaketh again! [00:49:13] Oh my! [00:49:16] Now Jesus was talking about [00:49:19] he that speaks against [00:49:21] the Holy Ghost. [00:49:26] And then he gives you a clue. [00:49:28] How were they speaking [00:49:29] against the Holy Ghost? [00:49:30] Jesus cast the demons [00:49:32] out of a boy [00:49:33] and he was healed. [00:49:36] And they said he's doing it [00:49:38] by the power of Satan, [00:49:39] by Beelzebub. [00:49:43] In the Old Testament [00:49:44] it was Beelzebub. [00:49:48] Beel. [00:49:50] The Lord of the Flies. [00:49:52] The Lord of the evil spirit. [00:49:56] That's how Jesus is doing it. [00:49:57] Jesus said, you know what? [00:49:59] People are going to speak [00:50:00] against me [00:50:01] and they're going to find forgiveness. [00:50:05] People are going to do [00:50:09] all kinds of things toward me. [00:50:12] But if they do it [00:50:13] toward the Holy Spirit, [00:50:15] it will not be forgiven [00:50:19] not in this world [00:50:22] or in the world now. [00:50:25] Can I ask you a question? [00:50:27] How are you in heaven [00:50:28] with unforgiven hands? [00:50:39] Speak again. [00:50:41] Let's look at the word blast them. [00:50:43] Just look at the definition of it. [00:50:46] Blasphemy, slander, [00:50:49] detraction, speech, [00:50:51] injurious to another's good name, [00:50:54] impious, reproachful speech, [00:50:56] injurious to divine majesty, [00:50:58] vilification against God, [00:51:00] blasphemy, evil speaking, [00:51:01] railing. [00:51:02] Google says, [00:51:03] abusively despairing speech [00:51:05] or writing. [00:51:07] Oh my. [00:51:09] Speaking against the Holy Spirit. [00:51:13] Now, you know, here's [00:51:14] what's amazing. [00:51:16] I'm going to turn to this [00:51:17] in a minute. [00:51:18] But here's a book. [00:51:19] I don't know if everybody [00:51:20] can see this or not. [00:51:23] Maybe I'll walk a little closer. [00:51:25] This is a book called [00:51:26] The Holy Spirit and Power. [00:51:30] It includes 10 timeless messages [00:51:34] from the founder of [00:51:36] the Methodist Church, [00:51:38] John Wesley. [00:51:39] Can you see it? [00:51:40] There you go. [00:51:41] Great book. [00:51:42] It's just 10 of his transcribed [00:51:45] sermon in the 1700s. [00:51:48] What I found amazing [00:51:49] about the great Methodist preacher, [00:51:51] John Wesley, [00:51:54] on page 111 [00:52:00] in Chapter 7 [00:52:01] of this book, [00:52:03] he asked the question. [00:52:06] He's talking about the gifts [00:52:07] of all of these. [00:52:08] Did the spiritual gifts [00:52:09] cease after the apostolic age? [00:52:12] Now, think about [00:52:14] the ministry of [00:52:16] John Wesley began after [00:52:18] somewhere right after [00:52:19] around 1735. [00:52:21] All right. [00:52:22] When he actually, [00:52:23] you know, [00:52:24] a lot of people don't know this, [00:52:25] you know, [00:52:25] he was more holy [00:52:26] than most Christians [00:52:27] are now before he was saved. [00:52:29] And he and his brother [00:52:30] and Whitfield [00:52:32] created the Holy Club at Oxford. [00:52:34] They were trying to be holy [00:52:35] in their own strength, [00:52:37] and that didn't save them. [00:52:39] And then he thinks he's a Christian [00:52:41] and he comes, [00:52:42] he travels all the way from England. [00:52:43] Think about back then in 1735, [00:52:46] all the way from England, [00:52:46] he comes to the territory [00:52:49] now called Georgia, [00:52:49] the state of Georgia, [00:52:51] to be a missionary [00:52:53] to the American Indians here. [00:52:56] He fails so miserably [00:52:59] to win anybody to Jesus [00:53:01] and to do anything good as a missionary. [00:53:04] He goes back home [00:53:05] as a miserable failure. [00:53:07] And then he visits [00:53:08] the Alders Gate prayer meeting [00:53:10] and history is made [00:53:11] once he understands [00:53:13] that he must be born again, [00:53:14] that he must trust [00:53:16] Jesus Christ justification by faith. [00:53:19] He hears that. [00:53:20] He's there reading, [00:53:21] I think, Luther commentary on Romans. [00:53:26] But anyway, he says he believes [00:53:27] and he understands [00:53:29] even though he was trying to be good, [00:53:30] he had not truly fully just trusted [00:53:34] the blood of Jesus [00:53:35] and the resurrection of Jesus [00:53:36] for his righteousness [00:53:37] and for his salvation. [00:53:38] And at that moment he said [00:53:39] he felt his heart strangely warm, [00:53:41] he was born again. [00:53:43] And then this man [00:53:45] got full of the Holy Spirit. [00:53:48] And this man blazed the trail [00:53:51] of truth and revival [00:53:55] in England [00:53:57] and in the American colony. [00:54:00] All right, [00:54:01] and this is what he said. [00:54:03] He said claims that [00:54:04] the miraculous powers [00:54:06] and gifts of the Holy Spirit [00:54:07] ended with the apostles [00:54:08] is canceled by the testimonies [00:54:12] of the early church fathers. [00:54:14] Where is the proof [00:54:15] that they were wrong? [00:54:16] Who is to say that [00:54:17] they were either fools [00:54:18] or scoundrels? [00:54:20] Without proof, no one can. [00:54:22] He said proceed [00:54:23] to the testimony [00:54:24] of Justin Martyr. [00:54:26] Now let me pull this up right here. [00:54:29] Let me, before I read that, [00:54:30] let me show you this little, [00:54:32] I'm reading a great book. [00:54:33] This is going to be [00:54:33] in our school here. [00:54:35] This is called [00:54:35] The Ancient Church Fathers. [00:54:38] Wonderful book. [00:54:39] This is going to be [00:54:39] one of our textbooks here [00:54:41] when we get to church history. [00:54:43] But he has a diagram here. [00:54:45] I don't know if you can see it. [00:54:45] He has a little diagram [00:54:48] of kind of how the faith was passed on. [00:54:52] You get a little idea. [00:54:53] But he shows us here [00:54:55] like who discipled who? [00:54:56] Like Peter, Paul, and John [00:55:00] discipled Clement of Rome. [00:55:03] John had two main disciples though, [00:55:06] Polycarp and Ignatius. [00:55:08] And Polycarp discipled Justin Martyr. [00:55:13] Okay. [00:55:15] And you can see, [00:55:15] and you can go down. [00:55:16] I mean, this is all church history [00:55:17] confirmed by the writing [00:55:19] that we have [00:55:21] of these early church fathers. [00:55:22] Some of them say, [00:55:22] well, what about, [00:55:23] what if some of the early [00:55:24] church fathers were counterfeited? [00:55:25] Well, when the early [00:55:26] church fathers were fighting [00:55:28] against Gnosticism [00:55:30] and Roman Catholic stuff [00:55:32] and all that, [00:55:34] you can pretty well trust it. [00:55:35] And again, again, [00:55:38] we'll get into how we know [00:55:40] it's all documented. [00:55:41] But anyway, [00:55:42] Polycarp, John, direct disciple. [00:55:45] Polycarp took over at Ephesus [00:55:46] after John died. [00:55:48] And then Polycarp [00:55:50] discipled Justin Martyr. [00:55:51] We're talking about [00:55:53] how Christianity continues, right? [00:55:56] So, John Wesley, [00:55:59] quoting church history, [00:56:00] in which he was a scholar, [00:56:04] says, you want to say [00:56:06] that the gifts of the Holy Spirit [00:56:08] stopped after the Apostle. [00:56:10] He said, wrong, [00:56:11] according to church history. [00:56:14] Wrong. [00:56:14] And might I say, [00:56:17] the Catholic Church [00:56:17] didn't come in until 313 A.D. [00:56:19] under Constantine. [00:56:22] So you can't say, [00:56:22] oh, no, no, this is just [00:56:24] Catholic Church corruption. [00:56:25] No, no, no. [00:56:26] They're not even in existence here. [00:56:28] So, Justin Martyr, [00:56:30] he said, proceed to the testimony [00:56:32] of Justin Martyr, [00:56:33] who wrote about 50 years [00:56:34] after the Apostles. [00:56:35] He wrote, [00:56:37] there are prophetic gifts [00:56:39] among us even until now. [00:56:41] You may see with us [00:56:43] both women and men [00:56:44] having gifts [00:56:46] from the Spirit of God. [00:56:47] He particularly insisted [00:56:49] upon casting out devils [00:56:51] as the gift that everyone [00:56:52] might see with his own eye. [00:56:56] Irenaeus, [00:56:57] you look at this little chart, [00:56:58] you see, Polycarp, [00:57:01] Justin Martyr, [00:57:03] then he discipled Irenaeus. [00:57:06] Irenaeus wrote a volume, [00:57:08] massive volume, [00:57:09] called Against Heresy. [00:57:11] And he was fighting against [00:57:13] the heretics, [00:57:14] the Gnostic heretic. [00:57:16] All right. [00:57:17] He said, Irenaeus, [00:57:19] who wrote somewhat later, [00:57:20] affirms that all [00:57:21] who were truly disciples of Jesus [00:57:24] wrought miracles in his name. [00:57:26] Some cast out devils, [00:57:27] others had visions, [00:57:29] or the knowledge of the future events, [00:57:31] others healed the sick. [00:57:33] And as to the raising the dead, [00:57:34] he declares it to have been [00:57:36] frequently performed [00:57:38] on necessary occasions [00:57:39] by great fasting [00:57:41] and the joint supplication [00:57:42] of the church. [00:57:43] And then he said this, [00:57:44] we quote, [00:57:45] this is Irenaeus, [00:57:47] one of the great fathers [00:57:49] and just apostles of the church. [00:57:52] He said, [00:57:53] we hear many, [00:57:54] says he, [00:57:54] speaking with all kinds of tongues [00:57:56] and expounding [00:57:57] the mysteries of God. [00:58:03] Oh, you want to talk about [00:58:07] the racist Charles Parham [00:58:10] in 1906 and seven [00:58:13] and say, [00:58:15] tongues is of the devil. [00:58:18] It's from the mystery school. [00:58:21] What about Justin Martyr? [00:58:23] An Irenaeus. [00:58:27] Oh, and it goes on. [00:58:30] And this is a sermon [00:58:32] John Wesley preached. [00:58:39] Let's see. [00:58:39] He says, [00:58:43] they talked about casting out demons [00:58:45] all the time. [00:58:47] The resurrection of the dead. [00:58:49] Let me let me just jump. [00:58:56] We jump over here. [00:58:57] There's just I mean, [00:58:57] there's so much good stuff. [00:58:58] I could really just about healing [00:58:59] of the sick. [00:59:02] Where were we here? [00:59:10] Oh, he just he talks about them [00:59:12] talking about them having, [00:59:13] you know, prophecies. [00:59:18] Curtullian talking about it [00:59:19] continuing into the 200s [00:59:22] and 300. [00:59:23] So what I'm getting at [00:59:24] the gifts of healing [00:59:25] and he and he lists them here. [00:59:26] John Wesley list. [00:59:28] He said, [00:59:28] these are the things [00:59:29] that continued in the church [00:59:31] after the apostles [00:59:32] and he's talking about [00:59:33] in the late 1st century, [00:59:35] 2nd century, 3rd century. [00:59:37] He says, casting out devils [00:59:39] speaking with new tongues, [00:59:40] escaping dangers [00:59:41] in which otherwise [00:59:42] they might have perished. [00:59:44] Healing the sick prophecy [00:59:45] foretelling things to come. [00:59:47] Visions divine dreams [00:59:48] and discerning of spirit. [00:59:51] John Wesley. [00:59:56] And I mean, and let me [00:59:58] let me just go to something else [01:00:00] because I quoted this. [01:00:02] Let's everybody turn [01:00:04] because I'm going to quote [01:00:04] John Wesley here again. [01:00:06] Everybody turn to 1 Corinthians 13. [01:00:08] Let's just deal with this [01:00:09] once and for all right here. [01:00:16] 1 Corinthians 13. [01:00:22] Don't shout me down [01:00:23] when I'm preaching good. [01:00:24] I'm Pentecostal and unashamed. [01:00:28] I speak in tongues [01:00:29] and cast out devils [01:00:32] in Jesus name. [01:00:34] That'd be a good song. [01:00:35] Hey, I'm on to something here. [01:00:40] I prophesy. [01:00:47] You know, I'll give you one [01:00:48] while you're turning there. [01:00:49] Everybody turn in there. [01:00:51] Here's what's cool. [01:00:53] Well, I'm not going to say it. [01:00:55] Can't because it might [01:00:55] it'll give away [01:00:56] because I know somebody's listening [01:00:57] and it'll give away their gift. [01:01:02] I'll tell you about it later. [01:01:03] Just we have to wait [01:01:05] till after Father's Day. [01:01:06] Come. [01:01:07] My Father's Day gift. [01:01:08] I know what it is, [01:01:08] but we can't let your dad keep walking. [01:01:12] So he might figure it out. [01:01:15] He's a smart guy. [01:01:17] All right. [01:01:19] Let's read this. [01:01:21] I tend to know [01:01:21] what my father's day [01:01:23] is going to figure out [01:01:24] my anniversary gift [01:01:25] because that's what I want, babe. [01:01:26] All right. [01:01:29] This one's really cool, though, [01:01:30] because it's the fulfillment [01:01:32] of a prophecy. [01:01:34] It's just amazing. [01:01:35] Bible prophecy stuff, man. [01:01:37] All right. [01:01:38] All right. [01:01:39] Here we go. [01:01:42] Here we go. [01:01:44] All right. [01:01:44] 1 Corinthians 13. [01:01:45] Let's just read it. [01:01:46] Though I speak with the tongues [01:01:47] of men and of angels. [01:01:48] It says it's two kinds. [01:01:51] The known tongues [01:01:52] and languages of men. [01:01:53] The unknown languages of heaven. [01:01:55] He said, though I speak [01:01:56] with the tongues of men [01:01:57] and of angels [01:01:58] and have not charity. [01:01:59] I am become a sounding brass [01:02:01] or a tinkling cymbal. [01:02:02] And though I have the gift [01:02:03] of prophecy [01:02:04] and understand all mysteries [01:02:06] and all knowledge [01:02:06] and though I have all faith [01:02:07] so that I could remove mountains [01:02:09] and have not charity [01:02:10] or love in action. [01:02:11] I am nothing. [01:02:12] Though I bestow all my goods [01:02:14] to feed the poor. [01:02:14] Though I give my body [01:02:15] to be burned [01:02:16] and have not charity. [01:02:17] It profiteth me nothing. [01:02:18] Charity suffers long [01:02:19] and is a kind. [01:02:20] Charity envieth not. [01:02:22] So on and so forth. [01:02:22] Now let's jump on down. [01:02:24] Verse 8. [01:02:25] He says, charity or love [01:02:26] never fails. [01:02:27] But whether there be prophecies, [01:02:29] they shall fail. [01:02:30] Whether there be tongues, [01:02:31] they shall cease. [01:02:32] Whether there be knowledge, [01:02:33] it shall vanish away. [01:02:34] Now all those have [01:02:35] semicolons there. [01:02:37] Things of thought continue. [01:02:38] He says, whether they be prophecies, [01:02:40] eventually they fail. [01:02:41] Whether they be tongues, [01:02:42] they shall cease. [01:02:43] Whether there be knowledge, [01:02:44] it shall vanish away. [01:02:46] He says, for we know in part [01:02:48] and we prophesy in part. [01:02:50] But when that which is perfect [01:02:52] is come, [01:02:52] then that which is in part [01:02:54] shall be done away. [01:02:56] When I was a child, [01:02:56] I spoke as a child [01:02:57] and I stood as a child [01:02:58] and thought as a child. [01:02:59] But when I became a man, [01:03:01] I put away childish things. [01:03:02] For now, [01:03:03] we see through a glass darkly, [01:03:05] but then face to face. [01:03:07] Now I know in part, [01:03:08] but then when? [01:03:10] What is he talking about? [01:03:11] Face to face. [01:03:13] Now I know in part. [01:03:15] Then when I see Jesus face to face. [01:03:19] What he's talking about. [01:03:21] So I'm going to show you this, [01:03:21] the context of this. [01:03:23] He says, but then shall I know [01:03:24] even as I am known. [01:03:26] So let's look at this. [01:03:27] The detractors, [01:03:29] the cessationists, [01:03:30] the ones who say the gift sees. [01:03:33] Use this verse. [01:03:33] This is their passage they use. [01:03:35] This is the only one they got. [01:03:37] That's it, right? [01:03:41] But what they say is that when it says [01:03:43] when that which is perfect has come. [01:03:45] Let me put that verse up there. [01:03:47] But when that which is perfect has come, [01:03:48] then that which is in part [01:03:49] shall be done away. [01:03:50] So they what they say. [01:03:51] Now they just make this up, right? [01:03:53] I had that pastor in Florida [01:03:55] tell me exactly this right here. [01:03:57] And I've seen this over and over [01:03:59] and over again. [01:03:59] John MacArthur study Bible. [01:04:02] It's in fact, [01:04:03] in my Hebrew Greek study Bible, [01:04:04] that's the commentaries [01:04:05] by some Baptist do, okay? [01:04:09] But here's what the Bible said. [01:04:11] Now, what they say is [01:04:12] that which is perfect come [01:04:14] when the Scriptures, [01:04:15] the New Testament was canonized, [01:04:17] you know, [01:04:18] Matthew to Revelation. [01:04:19] When that was put together, [01:04:20] that is perfect. [01:04:22] And that was that [01:04:22] which is perfect has come. [01:04:24] Now, I'm not arguing. [01:04:25] I believe the Scriptures are inspired. [01:04:27] The New Testament is clearly [01:04:28] inspired by God, [01:04:29] infallible, inerrant. [01:04:32] It is God's perfect revelation to us. [01:04:36] But is that what this is talking about? [01:04:39] Because we have to take the word [01:04:40] by how it's defined, [01:04:42] how it's used, [01:04:46] and the context in which it is. [01:04:49] Or else we're not being [01:04:52] intellectually honest. [01:04:55] We're not being [01:04:56] hermeneutically correct. [01:05:00] My Baptist brethren, [01:05:03] because the word [01:05:06] perfect here [01:05:09] is clearly [01:05:10] referring to Jesus [01:05:15] and not the Scripture. [01:05:17] Nowhere does this passage say [01:05:18] this is that it's the Scriptures. [01:05:19] There's no hint. [01:05:21] There's no illusion to it. [01:05:23] There's nothing. [01:05:24] It's not alluded to. [01:05:25] It's not hinted at. [01:05:27] But what in the past where it says, [01:05:29] but that when we see him face to face, [01:05:34] when Jesus comes, [01:05:35] there'll be no more need [01:05:36] for tongue or prophecy [01:05:39] or vision or dream. [01:05:44] You won't have to be [01:05:46] led by the Spirit [01:05:48] because you will be with Him. [01:05:53] Amen? [01:05:55] See, I don't need. [01:05:56] Let's just say the gifts of the Spirit [01:05:57] are like a telephone. [01:05:58] My wife's at home. [01:05:59] I'm at church. [01:06:00] And we can communicate [01:06:01] through the telephone. [01:06:02] But when we're face to face, [01:06:05] do I need the telephone? [01:06:09] Simple, isn't it? [01:06:11] Well, get this. [01:06:12] John Wesley in the 1700s, [01:06:18] a Bible scholar, [01:06:19] a great man of God, [01:06:22] said this, [01:06:23] in a letter to Dr. Conyers Middleton, [01:06:27] January 4th, 1749, [01:06:32] he says this, [01:06:33] it was a response to a published criticism [01:06:37] of the gifts of the Spirit by Middleton. [01:06:40] And Wesley wrote in his journal, [01:06:42] I soon saw what occasion [01:06:44] that good man had given [01:06:45] to the enemies of God to blaspheme [01:06:48] and that Dr. Middleton, [01:06:49] in particular, [01:06:50] had largely used that work [01:06:51] in order to overthrow [01:06:52] the Christian system. [01:06:54] While Wesley's letter [01:06:56] was directly an answer [01:06:57] to Middleton's criticism, [01:06:59] it provides the modern Christian [01:07:00] with adequate answers [01:07:02] to the criticism of the gifts today. [01:07:04] One such theory argues, [01:07:06] tongues, prophecy, and knowledge [01:07:08] have passed away [01:07:08] because the perfect has come. [01:07:11] That perfect is said to be [01:07:12] the New Testament. [01:07:14] All of Wesley's ancient authority [01:07:16] cited in this letter [01:07:17] wrote after the books [01:07:19] of the New Testament written, [01:07:20] Justin, Irenaeus, [01:07:22] Fertullian, Cyprian, [01:07:23] Origen, all gave lists [01:07:26] of the New Testament books [01:07:27] in their writings. [01:07:32] From this, it is evident [01:07:33] that the gifts continued [01:07:34] in the church [01:07:35] after the New Testament books [01:07:37] were written [01:07:37] and used in the church. [01:07:39] Additionally, it is currently taught [01:07:41] that demonology, [01:07:42] concepts of the devil and demons [01:07:44] came into Judaism [01:07:45] after the Babylonian exile [01:07:46] from contact with Persian religion. [01:07:49] The use of such terms [01:07:50] and concepts is excused [01:07:53] as the way Jesus [01:07:54] and his contemporaries [01:07:55] described mental and emotional problems [01:07:57] in a pre-scientific era. [01:07:59] Wesley quickly saw [01:08:01] through this argument, [01:08:02] if there were no demons [01:08:03] and no devil, [01:08:04] Jesus would either be a fool [01:08:05] or a fraud. [01:08:07] So, Wesley contended [01:08:11] and showed by church history, [01:08:14] by the writings [01:08:15] of the church fathers [01:08:16] into the first century, [01:08:18] into the second century, [01:08:19] into the third century, [01:08:21] that the gifts of the Holy Spirit [01:08:22] continued. [01:08:23] And this, this theologian here, [01:08:26] Dr. Ken Johnson, [01:08:28] concurred with that. [01:08:31] And then I checked, [01:08:31] I spent hours up here yesterday [01:08:34] checking their sources, [01:08:35] checking the actual sources, [01:08:36] the actual writing. [01:08:38] So, the gifts continued. [01:08:40] So, let me give you [01:08:42] a little idea here [01:08:43] and I'm just going to throw this up [01:08:44] because I wrote a book [01:08:46] called Tongues of Fire, [01:08:49] talking about the baptism [01:08:50] of the Holy Spirit, [01:08:50] a little booklet [01:08:51] that's on our website. [01:08:54] And I wrote this [01:08:54] in 2007. [01:08:59] My wife did a great job editing it [01:09:01] and we just decided [01:09:02] to put it in a PDF [01:09:03] and make it free [01:09:04] to anybody it wanted. [01:09:06] Well, in this, [01:09:07] of course, [01:09:07] I looked up this word perfect [01:09:11] and the Greek word [01:09:12] for perfect [01:09:13] in this passage [01:09:16] is the Greek word [01:09:17] telios, [01:09:18] which means the perfect state [01:09:21] of all things [01:09:22] to be ushered in [01:09:23] by the return of Christ [01:09:24] from heaven. [01:09:27] That's what this word means. [01:09:28] And that is the definition, [01:09:29] the exact word for word definition [01:09:31] in the Thayer's lexicon. [01:09:34] So, I get this, [01:09:36] how these guys, [01:09:38] these Bible school professors, [01:09:41] educated pastors, [01:09:43] how do they look this word [01:09:47] perfect up in the Greek lexicons [01:09:52] that says this word [01:09:53] is talking about [01:09:54] the perfect state of all things [01:09:56] when Christ returns, [01:09:57] when Jesus Christ returns [01:09:59] and makes all things new, [01:10:01] when we see Him face to face, [01:10:05] how can they use that [01:10:06] to say it's the Scriptures [01:10:08] when the New Testament is complete? [01:10:10] And then how do you say [01:10:12] that knowledge has passed away? [01:10:14] Knowledge? [01:10:15] I think knowledge has passed away [01:10:16] for some of them. [01:10:22] This is not complicated, [01:10:25] but you know what it is? [01:10:28] True New Testament Christianity, [01:10:30] where you step out of the boat [01:10:33] into the miraculous realm [01:10:34] is not easy [01:10:37] because the devil opposes that [01:10:39] with all of his might. [01:10:40] He hates the power of God [01:10:43] being demonstrated in the earth, [01:10:45] in the church, [01:10:46] in your life. [01:10:49] He's fine with you [01:10:50] accepting a dead, [01:10:51] empty shell of Christianity, [01:10:56] but He cannot stand the thought [01:10:59] of you having actual power [01:11:01] in your prayer life. [01:11:04] You actually hearing [01:11:06] and discerning the voice [01:11:07] and leading of God, [01:11:10] healing the sick, [01:11:11] casting out demons, [01:11:13] raising the dead, [01:11:14] doing something supernatural. [01:11:16] He cannot stand the thought of that. [01:11:19] So He fights it [01:11:21] and He raises up people [01:11:22] like the little hippie [01:11:25] from the West Coast. [01:11:29] He's scared of it. [01:11:42] And I could go through [01:11:43] over and over. [01:11:46] They talked about it. [01:11:47] People were healed. [01:11:48] People were speaking [01:11:51] for centuries. [01:11:53] Wesley talks about it [01:11:54] in that same chapter. [01:11:55] I couldn't read the whole chapter. [01:11:56] He talks about [01:11:57] an outpouring of the Holy Spirit [01:11:58] and the gifts of the Spirit [01:11:59] in the French Huguenot. [01:12:05] It didn't start. [01:12:07] No, let me inform you. [01:12:08] Since you think you're so smart, [01:12:13] the baptism of the Holy Spirit, [01:12:14] the gifts of the Holy Spirit [01:12:16] didn't start with [01:12:18] the troublesome character [01:12:22] named Charles Poth. [01:12:26] No, it started on the day of Pentecost [01:12:30] and asked after two. [01:12:31] It continued when Peter went [01:12:34] to the household of Cornelius. [01:12:37] And everybody that heard [01:12:38] the Gospel and belief [01:12:39] were baptized in the Holy Spirit, [01:12:41] spoke in tongues, and prophesied. [01:12:43] Oh, and it continued [01:12:44] when Paul went to Ephesus [01:12:46] and found certain disciples and said, [01:12:48] have you received the Holy Ghost, [01:12:49] since you believe? [01:12:52] And he said he laid hands on them [01:12:53] and the Holy Spirit came on them [01:12:54] and they spoke in tongues and prophesied. [01:12:58] Oh, oh, oh. [01:12:58] And it continued [01:13:02] in the Corinthians and the Church of Ephesus. [01:13:08] In fact, some of the Church Fathers [01:13:10] in here, Ignatius, Parley-Carp, [01:13:13] Irenaeus talked about how [01:13:14] there were churches in their day [01:13:17] in the second century. [01:13:19] Said they came behind in no gift. [01:13:21] They had all the gifts operating. [01:13:24] The gift of tongues. [01:13:25] And they talked about the gift of tongues [01:13:27] were not just known languages [01:13:28] that they were languages [01:13:30] as Paul said in 1 Corinthians 4 [01:13:32] that no man knows. [01:13:35] That we speak mysteries to God. [01:13:38] You want to call that of the devil, [01:13:41] demonic, Bible? [01:13:43] Let me tell you something, son. [01:13:44] Been preaching this Gospel, [01:13:46] Holy Ghost-filled, tongue-talking [01:13:48] for many years. [01:13:49] And I've seen many people saved [01:13:50] through the anointing and power [01:13:52] of the Spirit upon this meeting. [01:13:53] I'm talking about truly born again saved [01:13:57] because of the power of the Holy Ghost [01:14:00] through messages that I didn't know [01:14:02] what to preach until I prayed in tongues [01:14:04] and the Holy Spirit gave me [01:14:05] the interpretation of those tongues [01:14:07] and told me exactly what to preach. [01:14:09] And then people got saved. [01:14:12] Don't tell me it's of the devil, [01:14:14] you devil. [01:14:17] Get behind me, Satan. [01:14:23] You oppose the Holy Spirit. [01:14:26] You blaspheme the Holy Spirit. [01:14:30] You better be careful out there, [01:14:32] you YouTube-blogging people. [01:14:37] You don't get to talk against [01:14:39] what's in God's Word [01:14:41] and what some people in the church [01:14:43] understand to be absolutely true [01:14:45] from God's Word [01:14:46] and have experience. [01:14:47] Don't talk about things you don't know [01:14:49] and don't teach about things [01:14:51] and try to leave places. [01:14:53] You won't go. [01:14:57] Never spoken tongues [01:14:58] and you're going to tell me [01:14:59] how it's supposed to work or not work. [01:15:01] What are you talking about? [01:15:08] Ridiculous. [01:15:11] I'm going to tell you what, [01:15:13] one of the most powerful, [01:15:16] blessed things you can do [01:15:19] when you're at your wits end [01:15:21] and you don't know what to do [01:15:22] and you don't know what the will of God is, [01:15:24] one of the most powerful things you can do [01:15:27] is pray in tongues. [01:15:32] Pray in the Spirit, Paul called. [01:15:34] Pray in the Spirit. [01:15:36] I don't know. [01:15:37] Pray in it. [01:15:37] Sometimes I prayed in the Spirit [01:15:39] for an hour until the peace of God came [01:15:42] and the presence of God came [01:15:43] and I had just a download [01:15:46] from the Lord of His wisdom [01:15:48] what to do in this situation. [01:15:52] It shows me, [01:15:53] I think it's a tool God's given us [01:15:56] to not lean on our own strength. [01:15:58] I'm going to tell you how many times [01:15:59] I don't know what to preach, [01:16:00] I don't know what to teach, [01:16:01] I don't know what to counsel somebody, [01:16:03] I don't know what to say. [01:16:05] I ask Him and then I've had Him tell me, [01:16:16] Son, have you forgotten to pray [01:16:20] in the Spirit to build up [01:16:22] your faith? [01:16:24] That's what Jude's had. [01:16:32] I mean, you guys know, [01:16:35] y'all got some bad disfriends, [01:16:36] call it babbling. [01:16:38] Demonic babbling. [01:16:41] Oh, geez. [01:16:44] Better tread carefully. [01:16:49] See, the problem is, [01:16:53] when you resist the Holy Spirit [01:16:55] and you quench the Holy Spirit, [01:16:57] you'll eventually blast Him. [01:17:03] Better stop. [01:17:05] Better stop while you can. [01:17:11] Well, I don't know about it. [01:17:13] It keeps you massive. [01:17:20] What do you call blasphemy in the Holy Spirit? [01:17:22] Speaking again. [01:17:31] Careful, careful. [01:17:32] Oh, no, no, no. [01:17:36] Holy Spirit doesn't heal people anymore. [01:17:39] Holy Spirit doesn't give people [01:17:40] gift of tongues anymore. [01:17:41] Holy Spirit doesn't give people discernment anymore. [01:17:43] Holy Spirit doesn't give people prophecies anymore. [01:17:46] Oh, you're speaking again. [01:17:50] I hope you're not saved. [01:17:51] You might find mercy. [01:17:54] You're a Christian. [01:18:01] You're in dangerous territory. [01:18:05] Y'all learn anything? [01:18:09] I want to say this to those out there watching. [01:18:11] This is our church, y'all know. [01:18:17] If you've never been baptized, [01:18:20] filled with the Holy Spirit, [01:18:22] with the evidence of speaking another tongue, [01:18:25] that's not just for some. [01:18:27] People always want to throw out the verse [01:18:28] in first Corinthians. [01:18:29] Do all speak with tongues? [01:18:30] Does it say they can't? [01:18:33] No, it's just making a statement [01:18:35] and asking questions. [01:18:35] Do all Christians do it? [01:18:37] No, absolutely. [01:18:37] And they never will. [01:18:39] Does that mean it's not for all? [01:18:42] No, that's not what it says. [01:18:42] See, we can't add to it and take from it. [01:18:45] Paul said, I wish you all spoke with tongues. [01:18:47] Jesus said, these signs shall follow them [01:18:49] to believe in my name. [01:18:50] They shall cast out devils [01:18:51] and they shall speak with new tongues. [01:18:54] Word, new, interesting word. [01:18:56] Things never known before. [01:18:59] Not just known languages, [01:19:00] but new ones. [01:19:01] Never known. [01:19:01] Never experienced. [01:19:06] So this gift, [01:19:09] this is something you've got to... [01:19:11] Before you... [01:19:12] I have people all the time say, [01:19:13] well, I pray. [01:19:16] And I didn't get it, [01:19:17] so I just moved on. [01:19:21] You know, the old Pentecostal. [01:19:23] And I'm talking about [01:19:23] before they were Pentecost. [01:19:26] When they heard this truth, [01:19:30] they would lay hold of God. [01:19:31] They would get with God about it [01:19:33] until they were filmed. [01:19:34] They didn't give up [01:19:36] when it didn't happen in a day. [01:19:38] In fact, they used to have [01:19:39] entire services [01:19:40] where they had called people [01:19:42] to the altar for them to tarry. [01:19:44] You know what tarry means? [01:19:45] Wait. [01:19:46] Because what did Jesus say? [01:19:48] You guys go to Jerusalem [01:19:49] and wait for the promise of the Father. [01:19:52] I mean, don't do anything. [01:19:54] Think about it. [01:19:54] He trained these apostles [01:19:55] for three years. [01:19:57] He trained them. [01:19:57] And then, you know, [01:19:59] he's given them the anointing. [01:20:01] He's given them the command. [01:20:02] He's given them the authority. [01:20:04] You go preach the gospel to the world, [01:20:05] but then he says, [01:20:06] but wait. [01:20:07] Before you go do everything [01:20:08] I told you to do [01:20:10] about preaching the gospel [01:20:11] to the entire world, [01:20:12] go to Jerusalem [01:20:14] and wait for the baptism [01:20:17] of the Holy Ghost. [01:20:18] Now, he didn't tell them [01:20:19] it'd be 10 days. [01:20:23] They didn't know [01:20:23] it was going to be 10 days. [01:20:26] But think about it. [01:20:27] How many Christians [01:20:28] could go to a prayer meeting [01:20:29] for 10 days and wait? [01:20:32] Most people can't go to prayer [01:20:33] meeting for one hour, [01:20:36] but they went to a prayer meeting [01:20:37] for 10 days and waited until [01:20:42] they were filled. [01:20:43] That shows hunger. [01:20:45] That shows patience. [01:20:47] That shows determination. [01:20:48] That shows I'm not leaving [01:20:50] until I get something from God. [01:20:54] You got to be. [01:20:55] You got to want this thing. [01:20:57] You got to want more. [01:20:59] You got to be willing to wait. [01:21:00] You got to be willing to see. [01:21:02] You got to be willing to fast. [01:21:03] Do you spend any time? [01:21:06] I mean, we know this brother [01:21:07] who wrote this book [01:21:08] about the power [01:21:10] and gifts of the Holy Spirit. [01:21:11] He didn't know what else to do. [01:21:13] God called him [01:21:13] to the full-time ministry, [01:21:15] told him to leave his job. [01:21:16] He didn't know what to do. [01:21:17] You know what he started doing? [01:21:19] Praying in tongues [01:21:20] eight hours a day. [01:21:23] Do you know what happened? [01:21:24] He did this for days on end. [01:21:28] And finally, [01:21:28] he went to a church meeting [01:21:31] and guess what? [01:21:33] Holy Spirit gifts started working in him. [01:21:35] Pray for that one. [01:21:36] Pray for that one. [01:21:37] This one right here. [01:21:38] People started getting healed [01:21:40] in the church [01:21:40] where they didn't teach healing. [01:21:41] Uh oh. [01:21:44] Uh oh. [01:21:46] Troublemaker in the house. [01:21:50] That's because the man prayed [01:21:51] in tongues eight hours a day [01:21:52] until the Holy Spirit [01:21:54] filled him and strengthened him [01:21:55] and built his faith. [01:21:58] How many of us would do something like? [01:21:59] How many of us [01:22:00] would get in our prayer time [01:22:01] and say, you know what, Lord? [01:22:03] I prayed to be filled [01:22:04] with the Holy Spirit. [01:22:05] I prayed for the gifts of tongues [01:22:07] so I can have this ability [01:22:09] to pray in the Spirit [01:22:10] and worship in the Spirit. [01:22:13] I prayed for but I hadn't received it. [01:22:15] Are you giving up? [01:22:16] Are you quitting? [01:22:17] How many of you are going to say, [01:22:18] you know what, [01:22:19] Pastor Dean, [01:22:19] I hear what you're saying. [01:22:20] I don't care what it takes. [01:22:22] I'm going to seek this [01:22:25] infilling, empowering from heaven [01:22:28] until I get it. [01:22:33] I will not take no for an answer [01:22:35] because God's not saying no. [01:22:36] But he wants to see. [01:22:37] Are you hungry? [01:22:40] Are you willing? [01:22:43] I have a feeling [01:22:46] that had it been 30 days, [01:22:49] had it been two months. [01:22:51] Oh yeah, [01:22:52] I'm sure they would have still, [01:22:54] you know, [01:22:55] ate food once in a while [01:22:56] and gone to the bathroom. [01:22:56] I'm not saying that. [01:23:00] But they were not going to go [01:23:01] try to do the work of the ministry [01:23:07] or do anything [01:23:09] until they had been baptized [01:23:10] with the Holy Spirit. [01:23:12] Oh, but I got that at salvation, really. [01:23:17] They were already saved [01:23:18] and yet they were waiting [01:23:19] for something more. [01:23:24] I mean, I'm going to tell you something. [01:23:28] I can't see anything [01:23:31] more New Testament [01:23:35] and more needful. [01:23:38] Two things I see [01:23:39] absolutely critical and needful [01:23:41] in the church. [01:23:41] The church to understand [01:23:43] repentance and faith [01:23:46] and the gospel of Jesus Christ, [01:23:51] redemption, the blood at home, [01:23:53] and then to understand the need [01:23:56] for the power of the Holy Spirit. [01:24:00] And they go hand in hand. [01:24:03] Oh, I love the gospel, brother. [01:24:06] I'm a gospel man of God. [01:24:10] That Holy Spirit stuff. [01:24:12] I don't, don't think. [01:24:16] Wow. [01:24:16] Okay, buddy. [01:24:19] You got something I've never, [01:24:25] I'm telling you, 31 years, [01:24:26] 31 years, 31 years. [01:24:29] And I'm still cannot fathom. [01:24:35] I'm going to tell you, man, [01:24:36] they're dropping like flies out there. [01:24:38] The pastor, [01:24:41] Kevin sent me an article. [01:24:42] Albert, was it Albert Mohler? [01:24:44] Wasn't he the president [01:24:45] of the Southern Baptist convention [01:24:46] at one point or something like that? [01:24:48] One of the big Baptist leave. [01:24:48] He wrote an article, [01:24:49] the wrath of God [01:24:50] falling on the Southern Baptist church. [01:24:53] He said there is an avalanche. [01:24:55] That's his work. [01:24:56] An avalanche of pastors [01:25:01] being exposed for sexual misconduct. [01:25:10] Say, hmm, oh yeah, [01:25:12] it's happened to Pentecostals. [01:25:13] It's happened. [01:25:14] But usually, let me tell you [01:25:16] where this usually happens to people [01:25:18] when they get away from [01:25:21] the word of God in something. [01:25:25] When Pentecostals get off on prosperity, [01:25:29] money, fame, [01:25:33] they're going down the tube. [01:25:37] When these Baptist preachers [01:25:38] fight against the Holy Spirit [01:25:40] and the gifts of the Holy Spirit [01:25:42] for years, [01:25:43] is it any wonder they end up falling? [01:25:48] I'm going to tell you right now, [01:25:49] I need the power of the Holy Spirit [01:25:52] so I don't fall. [01:26:00] I could just keep preaching. [01:26:01] I got to quit. [01:26:02] I've already preached too long. [01:26:04] Y'all should have said that. [01:26:08] Let's think. [01:26:12] Let's do that song. [01:26:14] That morse. [01:26:16] If it'll work. [01:26:21] I think we need to make this our prayer [01:26:25] before we leave today. [01:26:29] And for those watching, [01:26:33] quit letting megachurches [01:26:36] and pastors [01:26:39] and Bible school teachers [01:26:43] and commentaries [01:26:47] talk you out of what God has for you. [01:26:53] Just read the New Testament. [01:26:56] If you read the New Testament, [01:26:58] you shut out the Baptist theology, [01:26:59] the Presbyterian theology, [01:27:01] the Lutheran theology. [01:27:02] You just shut all that out. [01:27:04] You just read the New Testament. [01:27:06] Let me tell you the conclusion [01:27:07] you're going to come up with. [01:27:11] The baptism of the Holy Spirit, [01:27:12] the gift of tongues, [01:27:13] healing, miracles, [01:27:15] casting out demons. [01:27:17] It's for everybody that wants it. [01:27:19] That'll believe it. [01:27:20] That'll step out of the boat. [01:27:23] Not just for Pastor Dean, [01:27:27] not just for the apostles. [01:27:34] Let's sing this. [01:27:36] Father, we make that our prayer today [01:27:39] now that we want more. [01:27:41] Lord, even if we're baptized [01:27:43] in the Holy Spirit, [01:27:45] even if we have the gift of tongues, [01:27:47] the health of prayer, worship, [01:27:49] in your session, [01:27:52] Lord, I ask you, Lord, [01:27:54] to give us more. [01:27:55] We need your Lord. [01:27:57] We need you to fill us. [01:27:58] Lord, we see the book of Acts. [01:28:00] They will constantly pray for more [01:28:03] to be received [01:28:06] and to be filled and overflowed. [01:28:10] If all of anybody here today [01:28:12] or those watching this [01:28:13] haven't been baptized [01:28:16] in the Holy Spirit according to the biblical one, [01:28:19] Acts 2, Acts 10. [01:28:21] I'm praying that that will take place [01:28:24] in their life [01:28:25] and that they will lay hold upon [01:28:28] and they will pursue you [01:28:30] until they receive. [01:28:35] So they're operating, [01:28:36] flowing, [01:28:37] the gifts of the Holy Spirit. [01:28:39] They will not settle. [01:28:41] They will not just say, [01:28:47] okay, I'm good. [01:28:50] So I pray this today [01:28:51] for everyone here [01:28:52] those watching Jesus.
